You’ll need to know the following information:
- The weight of the bike you want to carry.
- The weight of your Dave Cooper bike rack.
- The noseweight limit of the vehicle you want the carry your bike on.
Most bike manufacturers will give you a weight for your bike – but this is often the “dry” weight of your bike and doesn’t include any fluids – fuel, oil, etc. You need to add the weight of these to your “dry” weight to get a realistic weight of the bike.
There is a chance that, on your way home, there may be some mud on your bike as well – make an allowance for this as well!
Total bike weight = “Dry” weight + weight of fluids + weight mud!

The noseweight of your vehicle
Nose weight is the downward force exerted on a tow ball by a trailer, caravan, or other vehicle being towed. This is also the maximum load that can be used with a bak-rak product.
It’s an important factor in the safety and stability of the vehicle and rack while driving and must not be exceeded.
The VERY IMPORTANT BIT....
The total load on your tow ball will be…
The total weight of your bike + The weight of your Dave Cooper Rak + The weight of the Bak Rak convertor
Example:
Bike to carry – Trials Bike – Gas Gas 321 – dry weight 75kg. Fuel Capacity 3kg. Oil Capacity 1kg. Assume a total liquid weight of 5kg.
Vehicle – Skoda Superb with a 100kg nose weight limit.
Total bike weight = 75kg plus 5kg liquid = 80kg
To be carried on a Dave Cooper Rack – weight = 12kg, with a Bak-rak convertor weighing 3kg.
Total weight to be carried = 80kg (bike) + 12kg (Dave Cooper rack) + 3kg (Bak Rak convertor) = 95kg
Conclusion:
The nose weight limit of the car is 100kg, so the combination can be safely carried as long as there is less than 5kg of mud on the bike
